A low loader is a semi-trailer with 2 drops in deck height: one right after the curved supporting pipe and one right before the wheels. This permits the deck to be very low compared with alternative trailers. It offers the power to hold legal masses up to 12 ft (3.66 m) tall, which alternative trailers cannot. Low loaders are used to haul heavy equipment and instrumentation such as bulldozers, industrial equipment etc.
The first low loader trailer was invented within the 1920s; it featured a riveted curved shape and solid rubber tires. The first detachable gooseneck trailer, referred to as an RGN (Removable gooseneck), was created in 1958.
There are several types of low loader vehicles, including:
- Fixed Gooseneck
- Hydraulic detachable gooseneck
- Mechanically-detachable gooseneck
- Mechanical folding gooseneck
Our low loaders are the big beasts of our fleet. Pulling up to a 150 tonnes gross, our 6 x 4 and 8 x 4 trucks are designed to shift your big loads. The pride of the fleet is a Mercedes Arocs SLT with the new VIAB turbo clutch powered by a Euro 6 / 15.6 litre / 460kw (625bhp) engine. Combined with our low loader trailers we can offer four, five, and when linked to our 2 axle interdolly, up to seven axles which means we can transport equipment such as piling rigs, construction machinery, large fork lifts etc. Our low loader drivers are highly experienced and knowledgeable and will get the job done with the minimum of fuss. When necessary we provide escorting services and steersmen to ensure that your load reaches its’ destination safely.
Our heavy freight services can be utilised in association with our other services, such as general haulage and hi-abs to provide an overall one stop shop for all your transport needs.
